18TH CIRCUIT JUDICIAL NOMINATING COMMISSION
RE: 18 TH CIRCUIT JUDICIAL NOMINATING COMMISSION SEEKS APPLICANTS FOR A VACANCY ON THE EIGHTEENTH JUDICIAL CIRCUIT COURT. FLORIDA SUPREME COURT CONCLUDES THAT VACANCY SHOULD BE FILLED BY APPOINTMENT [ADVISORY OPINION NO. SC06-668]
Applicants are being sought to fill a seat on the Eighteenth Judicial Circuit Court. This appointment is to fill a vacancy in the Eighteenth Judicial Circuit Court resulting from the resignation of Judge Gene R. Stephenson, effective May 31, 2006.
NOTE: It is the opinion of the Florida Supreme Court [Advisory Opinion No. SC06-668] that this vacancy should be filled by appointment. Therefore, the following appointment process will proceed.
Applicants must have been a member of The Florida Bar for the preceding five (5) years, and must be electors of the State of Florida.
The deadline for submitting all applications for the Eighteenth Judicial Circuit Court position is Friday, May 19, at 2:00 p.m. An original and nine (9) copies of the completed application and attachments for these positions must be delivered by the foregoing deadline to:

Applications will be screened by the Eighteeenth Judicial Circuit Judicial Nominating Commissionand candidate interviews will be held on Tuesday, June 13, 2006. From the pool of candidates interviewed, at least three (3), but no more than six (6) names will be submitted to the Governor. The Governor has sixty (60) days from the receipt of the names to make the appointments.
Applications may be obtained from the Judicial Nominating Commission’s website at www.18jnc.com. Due to the possibility of future vacancies within the Eighteenth Circuit, all applications submitted timely will be retained for six months.
